Within the framework of QOC support for authors of performances The Secretary General receives the members of Youth Volleyball and Athletics National teams

In the framework of the Qatar Olympic Committee policy of honouring the performing athletes and teams, His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the Secretary General, received in his office Tuesday, August 10, 2010 the delegations of the Qatar Youth National Volleyball and Athletics teams. H.E congratulated the players, coaches and administrative staff members for the last achievement of the Volleyball team which won the CCG Youth Championships and for the performances of the Athletics team in the World Junior Championships in Canada as well as in  the Asian Championships in Vietnam.

Sheikh Saoud conveyed to both delegations the appreciation of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Heir Apparent and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee for their performances. He reiterated the full support of H.H for Qatari Youth by inciting the sport federations to accord the highest interest to various youth categories and provide every possible means and conditions for their development.

H.E valued the actual efforts of the Qatar Volleyball and the Qatar Athletics Federations in setting plans in preparing National teams in both sports, underlining at the same time the good job done by the previous boards who also contributed to these achievements.

From their parts, Mr. Abdulla Al-Zaini, the Qatar Athletics Federation President and Mr. Khalid Al-Mawlawi, President of the Qatar Volleyball Federation, valued the support of the H.H the Heir Apparent and affirmed that the performances achieved by the Qatari champions are due to H.H support. They also insisted on addressing their thanks to His Excellency Sheikh Saoud for receiving the Volleyball and Athletics delegations and continuous support and follow up of Qatari Sport activities.

H.E received the Volleyball delegation at 10 AM and the Athletics delegation at 11 AM.

It is worth mentioning that the Youth Athletics National team achieved an outstanding performance in the Youth World Athletics Championships in Moncton, Canada (July 19-26, 2010) by earning the 16th place in the overall table due to the gold medal won by the promising athlete Muataz Barsham who recorded an excellent height of 2.30m in the High Jump contest  and the bronze medal earned by Mohamad Al Garni in the 1500m race in a time of 3:38.91.

The Qatari participation in the Asian Youth Athletics Championships for boys and girls, held in the Vietnamese capital city Hanoi (July 1-4, 2010) with the participation of 31 countries was very positive. Qatar ended in the second place in the boys category, with 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.
