Sports federation says world is united with Japan

15 Mar 2011
Lahore, Pakistan: The President of the Asian Jujitsu and Belt Wrestling Federation, Khalil Ahmed Khan, has written to Japanese Olympic Committee President Tsunekazu Takeda to express his grief over the loss of life and the devastation caused by the earthquake and giant tsunami last Friday.

“This tragedy of Japan is a tragedy for all mankind,” says Khalil in his letter of condolence.

“The ferocious tsunami and Japan’s biggest recorded earthquake has caused the death of hundreds of people in Japan. Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes. The aftermath of the earthquake resulting in the disturbance of nuclear reactors at Fukushima is another crisis which requires world unity with the people of Japan. This calamity and disastrous tsunami is unprecedented and has shocked the whole world.”

The AJJBWF President, however, is confident that the Japanese are brave enough to overcome the tragedy with their spirit and courage.

“The AJJBWF has no words to console this loss of Japan; however, through this communiqué we would like to assure our friends in Japan that you are not alone and that others are feeling the same grief as you. On behalf of my board members and in my capacity as President, AJJBWF, we would like to endorse our fullest cooperation to the NOC Japan and the sports community.”

Khalil praised the prompt response of OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah in setting up a three-strong emergency committee headed by the President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, HRH Prince Feisal bin Al-Hussein, to assist and coordinate with the Japanese Olympic Committee.

“This will surely boost the morale of Japanese sportsmen and women,” he continues. “The solidarity of the Asian family under OCA leadership is worth mentioning. Asia is united and rising under the OCA.
“Finally I would like to extend my sympathies to the bereaved families of Japan who lost their lives during this catastrophe.”
