Ju-Jitsu is on rise in Asia

10 Mar 2013
Bangkok, Thailand, March 4, 2013: President Asian Ju-Jitsu & Belt Wrestling Federation (AJJBWF) and President OCA/ANOC H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Al Fahad Al Sabah during the meeting have discussed the joint efforts in promoting sports in Asia particularly Ju-Jitsu Sports. President OCA/ANOC H.E., Sheikh Ahmed Al Fahad Al Sabah on the 1st of March, 2013 met President Asian Ju-Jitsu & Belt Wrestling Federation (AJJBWF), Mr. Khalil Ahmed Khan in Bangkok, Thailand to discuss various strategies in order to promote sports and more particularly, Ju-Jitsu, in Asia.

During the course of the meeting, Sheikh Ahmed invited Mr. Khan to take an initiative to include and endorse Ju-Jitsu in the Gulf Region and assured OCA’s full cooperation in uplifting the standard of Ju-Jitsu under the umbrella of OCA. President AJJBWF highly appreciated OCA’s stance in this regard and promised to take all measures deemed to be necessary so as to achieve that goal.

The vision of AJJBWF is to provide self-confidence. As the ability to defend oneself greatly improves self-confidence, when it is combined with better judgment, integrity and overall improvement in lifestyle, it brings a positive attitude in the individual.

AJJBWF works to promote Ju-Jitsu and belt-wrestling across Asia and to make people aware of their benefits. The Federation provides people with a platform through which an individual’s mind and body is cultivated and not to use ju-jitsu and belt-wrestling as a means to vent one’s anger, frustration or emotional problems.

The vision of AJJBWF is to achieve the welfare of the practitioner. Not only self-defense skills should be on the individual’s character development, but a well rounded personality can be realized only if the spirit is right.

AJJBWF works to spread the philosophy of non-violence, a physical confrontation should be avoided wherever possible. The use of aggression is overlooked only in self-defense, or with defense of those who are defenseless. AJJBWF certainly does not promote meaningless strife, foolish stunts, intimidation of others, violent conduct, criminal acts, self-preening vanity, or any other vices or addictions.

AJJBWF has so far conducted 04 Asian Championships. 1st in 2006 at Almaty, 2nd in 2008 at Bishkek, 3rd in 2009 at Tashkent and 4th in 2012 at Kish-Iran.. 1st Asian Cadet Championship was held in 2009 at Tashkent and 1st Asian Junior Championship was held in 2010 at Tehran-Iran.

The next championship of 2013 will be in UAE or Kuwait and India will host the championship of 2014. Pakistan will be the host of 7th Asian Championship 2015.
