IOC Fair Play

18 Aug 2013
Nanjing, China: The six OCA Young Reporters along with the six youth reporters from Najing visited the Culture & Education Programme at the Athletes Village today in order to gain knowledge and information about other Asian countries.

Nowadays Fair Play is a complex notion that comprises and embodies a number of values that are fundamental not only to sport but also to everyday life. Respect, Friendship, Team spirit, Fair competition, Sport without doping, Respect for written and unwritten rules such as Equality, Tolerance, Care, Excellence and Joy, are the building blocks of fair play that can be experienced and learnt both on and off the field.

Without all the components mentioned above, enormous sport competitions such as the Olympic Games, Asian Games and the World Championships among various kinds of sports would not function smoothly. That is why; the host country must do everything to educate Fair Play, eventually improving the quality of sport during the games.

The OCA and the Nanjing Asian Youth Games Organizing Committee (NAYGOC) have made it mandatory to observe Fair Play in all competitions at the 2nd Asian Youth Games. To educate the young athletes on Fair Play the OCA and the NAYGOC have set up a kiosk at the Athletes Village.

After talking to a few volunteers working at the kiosk, one can conclude that Fair play, which is an essential and central part of successful involvement, promotion and development in both sport and life, can teach people tolerance and respect for others. It allows them to integrate into society and create a sense of teamwork. Fair play in sport is capable of giving hope, pride and identity, and it is able to unite where nationalities, politics, religions and cultures often divide.

To compliment Fair Play, the World Anti-Doping Agency also put up a stall at the Athletes Village.
