Bahrain’s School Mini Olympics attracts over 3,000 students

Manama, Bahrain, February 27, 2018: The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s 5th School Mini Olympics to be held from March 8-22 will feature a record-breaking 3,204 students from 57 government and private schools. It is being organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

There will also be a record-breaking 20 sports, six more than last year. The sports are: football, 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball, handball, table tennis, athletics, cricket, hockey, swimming, water sports, cycling, fencing, tennis, badminton, gymnastics, judo, karate, taekwondo, jiu jitsu and karting.

Fajer Jassim, Chair of the organising committee, said the event was a special initiative of the BOC President, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. “The School Mini Olympics has a positive impact on sports development in the kingdom,” she said. “We look at this event as a major contributor to expanding Olympism through school sports.”

*In other news from Bahrain NOC, a Level 2 Course, part of the National Coaching Programme, is underway at the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Olympic Academy in Juffair with 22 coaches from Bahrain and other Gulf countries.

The course, which runs until March 3, is in line with an agreement signed between the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Coaching Association of Canada to qualify national coaches in different sports. Topics include sports disputes, sports planning, mental preparation and anti-doping.
