Maryam Al Qasmi is Bahrain’s golden girl

Manama, Bahrain: Bahrain’s Maryam Al Qasmi won the table tennis singles title at the 3rd GCC Women's Games in Bahrain on Wednesday. Al Qasmi, the former GCC champion, was crowned champion after a comprehensive 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-9) victory over Qatar's Aya Majdi in the final at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association Gym in Riffa.

The two beaten semi-finalists, Kuwait's Fajer Mohammed and Qatari Maha Abdulredha, took the bronze medals. In the doubles final, Kuwait proved too strong for Bahrain as Manwa Al Shammiri and Maryam Sulaiman beat Al Qasmi and Kaltham Elyasi 3-1 (11-6, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9). Third place was shared by Bahrain's other pair of Fatma Al Hayki/Nadine Adel and Qataris Aya Majdi and Maha Abdulreda.

The winners were honoured by BTTA honorary president Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Rashid Al Khalifa in the presence of BTTA president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa and other officials.
