Curtain falls on fun, friendly and fruitful OCA swimming youth camp

28 Jun 2014
Doha, Qatar: The OCA Asian Swimming Youth Camp in Doha came to an end today after athletes and coaches experienced a fun, friendly and fruitful 10 days' training in the Hamad Aquatic Centre from June 18-28. The athletes and coaches thoroughly enjoyed their stay in Doha and the rich programme of activities, not only focusing on training but also on culture and education. The participants visited the traditional and modern Doha city, Museum of Islamic Arts, Anti-Doping Laboratory Qatar and Aspire Zone.

From June 24-26, the Qatar Swimming Association invited the young swimmers to participate in its own flagship tournament - the 6th Qatar International Championship to gauge the progress of the athletes from the OCA swimming youth camp.

The three-day championship had 37 events and two age categories - 13 to 14 years and 15 to 16 years - and each swimmer could participate in any number of individual events in addition to two relays plus the mixed relay.

On the last day of the camp, each athlete and coach received a certificate jointly issued by OCA, Qatar NOC, FINA, Olympic Solidarity and Qatar Olympic Academy to mark their great achievement and performance during the camp. The instructor appointed by FINA was Jim Fowlie from Australia.
