Manama, Bahrain: The Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of the first Gulf Cooperation Council Games, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, on Saturday crowned the national football team champion of the football tournament of Bahrain 11 following its 3-1 victory over Saudi Arabia in the final. Shaikh Nasser presented the Bahraini players with their gold medals.
The First Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation, Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, presented the Saudi players with their silver medals, and Bahraini Football Association Vice President Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa presented the UAE players with their bronze medals. Qatar finished fourth.
Shaikh Nasser asserted that the unprecedented achievement of the Bahraini football team was the result of the incessant support of the wise leadership for the sport and youth movement in the kingdom, adding that such an historic victory would have a positive impact and would motivate Bahraini players in the coming competitions.
He also said that the national team had succeeded in clinching the title thanks to the players’ dedication and determination, praising the administrative and technical staff for the tremendous efforts they had exerted throughout the tournament.
