SEA Games host Myanmar to hold weightlifting championships

Yangon, Myanmar: Myanmar will host the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships at Theinbyu Gymnasium in Yangon in November – another step on the road to organising the SEA Games in 2013. Organised by the Asian Weightlifting Federation, the annual event will run from November 5-12, according to a report by China’s state news agency Xinhua.

The Deputy Minister for Sport, U Thaung Htaik, said the championships would contribute to the development of weightlifting in Myanmar, and called on officials and organisers to gain experience in order to make the 2013 SEA Games a success.

The 27th SEA Games will be hosted in the new capital Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Ngwesaung Beach in Myanmar for 12 days, from December 11-22, 2013. The 26th SEA Games were held in Palembang, Indonesia, in 2011, and the 28th SEA Games will be at Singapore in 2015.
