Korean bobsledders will work to change silver to gold at Beijing 2022

Date : 08 Mar 2018

Seoul, Korea, March 8, 2018: Korean bobsledders who claimed sliver at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics have vowed to work even harder to achieve better results at the next Winter Games in Beijing in 2022, reports Yonhap News. The team of Won Yun-jong, Seo Young-woo, Jun Jung-lin and Kim Dong-hyun tied for second with a German team in the four-man bobsleigh competition at PyeongChang 2018 and became the first Asian bobsledders to win a medal at a Winter Olympics.

Won, the pilot, said the silver medals compensated for a sixth-place finish in the two-man bob with Seo when they had been medal contenders. "I was sorry for the performance in the two-man race but, with all the help from coaches and athletes, we had good results in the end," he said. "It's meaningful that we also showed possibility for the Beijing Olympics."

Seo said they would not stop with their silver at the PyeongChang Olympics. "I feel somewhat sad after we finished the Olympics, which was a dream stage to us," he said. "Many people worked hard for one goal and we earned a precious silver medal, so I'm thankful for that." Kim said they would work step by step for Beijing 2022 like they did for PyeongChang 2018.

"Many people say that our result was unexpected, but we've been working gradually to achieve our goal," he said. "For the Beijing Olympics we'll also set up an organised plan and will show improved performance."

Jun hopes to see massive fan support in Beijing like his team experienced at the PyeongChang Olympics. "Despite the two-man bobsleigh result, many fans supported us and that's why we had a good result in the four-man," he said. "We will work hard to get better results at the Beijing Olympics."
