Colombo, Sri Lanka, October 8, 2017: The Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) of Sri Lanka is pleased to announce the successful hosting of the Executive Board meeting of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) in Colombo.
The meetings were held in two sessions on October 5-6 at the Hilton Hotel with the participation of 19 Executive Board members representing the CGF regions of Africa, America, Europe, Caribbean and Canada, as well as Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Organising Committee members.
The meetings were led by Ms. Louise Martin, President of the CGF, and Mr. Hemasiri Fernando, President of the CGA Sri Lanka and Asia Region Vice President of the CGF, and Mr. Maxwell de Silva, Secretary of CGA Sri Lanka, represented the Asian region at these meetings.
The matters arising on the development of sports in the Commonwealth countries and the matters related to the forthcoming Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 were discussed at these meetings.
The Opening Ceremony was graced by Hon. H.M.M. Haris, Deputy Minister of Sports, Mr. Saman Bandara, Director General of Sports, and Mr. Milton Amarasinghe, Adviser to the Hon. Minister of Sports representing the Min. of Sports.
Members of CGA Sri Lanka also gathered for this ceremony. After the meeting, the delegation met H.E. Maithreepala Sirisena, the President of Sri Lanka, at the President's House. The second session of the meeting was followed by a press briefing. All the delegates were very impressed with the organisation and hospitality.
