Chinese trio stripped of Beijing 2008 gold medals

Lausanne, Switzerland, January 12, 2017: The International Olympic Committee today announced that eight athletes have been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012. They are:

*Cao Lei, 33, of China, gold medal in the women’s 75kg weightlifting, has been disqualified from Beijing 2008. Re-analysis of Cao’s samples resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance GHRP-2 and metabolite (GHRP-2 M2).

*Chen Xiexia, 34, of China, gold medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting, has been disqualified from Beijing 2008. Re-analysis of Chen’s samples resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance GHRP-2 and metabolite (GHRP-2 M2).

*Liu Chunhong, 31, of China, gold medal in the women’s 69kg weightlifting, has been disqualified from Beijing 2008. Re-analysis of Liu’s samples resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances GHRP-2 and metabolite (GHRP-2 M2), and sibutramine.

The other five athletes were: Nadzeya Ostapchuk, 36, of Belarus, 3rd in women’s shot put at Beijing 2008;  Darya Pchelnik, 36, of Belarus, 4th in women’s hammer throw at Beijing 2008; Sibel Simsek, 32, of Turkey, 4th in the women’s 63kg weightlifting at London 2012; Intigam Zairov, 31, of Azerbaijan, 6th in the men’s 94kg weightlifting at London 2012; Norayr Vardanyan, 29, of Armenia, 11th in the men’s 94kg weightlifting at London 2012.
