Atlanta, United States, January 2, 2017: The President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), HE Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, has been named the 11th most influential member of the global sports movement by Around The Rings (ATR).
In their annual year-end list, ATR says Sheikh Ahmad has given ANOC a stronger voice in the Olympic Movement and praises him for bringing together the world’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs) on an annual basis with a high-profile General Assembly.
His efforts to modernise the organisation and promote the ANOC brand include the establishment of the ANOC World Beach Games, the first edition of which will be held in San Diego, California, in 2019, and a new ANOC HQ in the Olympic capital Lausanne.
In addition to his ANOC role in charge of 206 NOCs, the IOC Member from Kuwait is Chairman of the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity Commission, which will distribute over 500 million USD to the NOCs during the next Olympic cycle 2017-2020.
“Ahmad, 56, is 15th in seniority after 24 years on the IOC as the member in Kuwait. He can serve until age 80, providing ample opportunities for him to be an influence in the future of the IOC and the Olympics,” ATR says.
Sheikh Ahmad is also one of the driving forces of the new Olympic Channel, as Vice Chair of the Olympic Channel Corporation in Switzerland and a member of the IOC Olympic Channel Commission, the report adds.
