Manama, Bahrain, October 3, 2018: Bahrain will send four athletes for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to begin on Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina with Maryam Ahmed - the first Bahraini female to qualify for the Games - spearheading the team.
Weightlifter Maryam earned her berth at the YOG by qualifying in Uzbekistan four months ago. She will take part in the under-48kg category.
The rest of the squad comprise Yousif Anan (men’s 400m, athletics), Marwa Al Ajooz (women’s 100m, athletics) and Ali Dawani (men’s singles, tennis).
The Bahrain delegation will be led by Bahrain Olympic Committee board member Bader Nasser and will include athletics coach Ameera Ebrahim and tennis coach Abdulrahim Munther.
More than 4,000 athletes from 206 countries will take part in the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games from October 6-18. They will take part in 32 events, including first-time medal sports BMX freestyle, kiteboarding and beach handball.
It will also be the first Olympic Games to have gender equality – with an equal number of male and female athletes participating.
