Almaty, Kazakhstan, March 21, 2019: The Kazakhstan National Olympic Committee has signed a memorandum of cooperation with UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
The document was signed by Saken Mussaibekov, Kazakhstan NOC General Secretary, and Krista Pikkat, Director of UNESCO office for Kazakhstan. The signed memorandum is the first such document in Central Asia.
Within the framework of this memorandum, both parties will join forces to promote physical education and sport. Special attention will be focused on inclusive and equal access to sports, as well as developing the Olympic Movement among the people of Kazakhstan.
The collaboration will also give priority on other key areas like Sport for All, education, gender equality and the fight against doping.
Kazakhstan NOC’s Mussaibekov said: “NOC President Mr. Timur Kulibayev sets us the task to strengthen relations with international organisations. We are ready to develop partnership in our country and continue to be active in specified areas.”
UNESCO’s Ms. Pikkat said: “We are very pleased to cooperate with Kazakhstan NOC as, for UNESCO, sport is not just competition and physical education it is also a key tool for the formation of a tolerant, just and peaceful society. It unites people despite their gender, race and beliefs.”
UNESCO and Kazakhstan NOC have already conducted several joint projects including a joint workshop aimed at female athletes’ career transition.
