Kabul, Afghanistan, April 12, 2019: Afghanistan’s IOC Member Samira Asghari has received an award for her voluntary work with the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society (ARCS).
Samira, who became an IOC Member last October, said: “It’s a great honour to be a member of the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society and to serve them as a volunteer for nine years with my great teammates and trainers, Shikaeb RS and Wasi Yousof Yousof.
“ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) and ARCS are both honourable national and international organisations of the world, like National Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee.
“The aim of both organisations is to make the world a better place and serve humanity. I personally think I’m lucky to be a member of both organisations and serving them.”
Samira thanked the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society’s administration and colleagues, especially Mr. Ahmad Jawed Sharafi, the head of the ARCS sports department, for acknowledging her election to the IOC membership.
“He has been supporting athletes for decades. I thank him again for his outstanding support,” she concluded.
Samira received her award from Mrs Husn Bano Ghazanfar, President of the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society.
