Shooter Beki judged Bangladesh’s Sportsman of the Year in 2018

Dhaka, Bangladesh, April 9, 2019: Shooter Abdullah Hel Beki was named 2018 Sportsman of the Year by the Bangladesh Sports Press Association at a glittering ceremony last Saturday.

Baki won the accolade for his silver medal-winning performance at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. This was the second time the shooter had won the award having previously scooped it in 2014 when he also won a silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Baki was selected ahead of Bangladesh Test cricket captain Mushfiqur Rahim and women’s cricketer Rumana Ahmed. He also won the best shooter of the year prize at the Kool-Bangladesh Sports Press Association Awards ceremony.

The popular choice award, where the public is also involved, was won by cricketer Tamim Iqbal. The dashing left-handed batsman was showered with love by the public for his heroics in the Asia Cup last year in the United Arab Emirates where Bangladesh finished runners-up to India.

Mushfiqur Rahim won the best cricketer of the year award while Topu Barman won the best footballer of the year prize. Shapla Akhter was awarded the best badminton player of the year award while footballer Sirat Jahan Sopna and tennis player Mahadi Hasan Alve were jointly presented with the emerging sportsmen of the year award.
