Tokyo, Japan, October 25, 2018: The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020 has received the Silver and Best Practice PRIDE Index awards in recognition of its workplace initiatives for LGBT and other sexual minorities.
Under the tagline “Know Differences, Show Differences”, Tokyo 2020 is positioning Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) as an indispensable element of achieving the Tokyo 2020 Games Vision and the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games. Accordingly, D&I is being incorporated into all aspects of Games planning and operations.
The PRIDE Index is made up of the following elements, which are taken into account for evaluation purposes: Policy, Representation, Inspiration, Development and Engagement/Empowerment.
In the PRIDE Index element of Policy, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee was selected as the recipient of the Best Practice Award based on its commitment to considering Human Rights, Labour and Fair Business Practices and its support for Human Rights.
The Organising Committee was also recognised for its efforts to conduct Diversity & Inclusion training sessions for all new staff, which include discussions on LGBT issues, as well as various initiatives aimed at further deepening the understanding of staff on related issues.
The Award Ceremony was held on October 11, 2018, and included a discussion session on the theme ‘What Japanese society and Japanese corporations can do for the Tokyo 2020 Games’.
