Dubai, United Arab Emirates, July 18, 2019: The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee met with representatives of national sports federations to review preparations for the 6th Gulf Cooperation Council Women’s Games to be held in Kuwait in October.
The meeting was attended by Mohamed Ben Darwish, Executive Director of the UAE NOC, Brigadier General Saleh Mohamed Ben Ashour, Assistant Secretary General for technical and sports affairs of the NOC, Mona Al Shamsi, advisor NOC, and representatives of federations.
A tribute was paid at the commencement of proceedings to Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the NOC, for his continued support to women in sport.
Apart from discussing prospects of winning medals, officials also focused on ways of highlighting the urban image of the UAE at these Games which will be held from October 20-30.
The GCC Women’s Games will feature a total of 10 sports with the aim of developing women’s role in sports. There is also a possibility of equestrianism being added to the roster.
UAE won 27 medals at the last Women's Games in 2017.
