Gaza a stop in IAAF Run 24:1 worldwide event

Gaza, Palestine, June 3, 2019: The first international sports event in Palestine was held on Sunday when more than 400 people took part in the International Association of Athletics Federations Run 24:1 race in Gaza.

The IAAF tweeted: “This is the first time that competitors in Gaza have been part of an international sporting event, and they were keen to show their stuff!”.

The race was organised by the Palestine Athletics Federation and started from the Port of Gaza in the presence of officials from the Palestine Olympic Committee. More than 400 participants, male and female, took part, many sporting the Palestine flag.

The IAAF Run 24:1 event included 24 cities in 24 different time zones, and was a one-mile run. Other major cities in Asia which was part of the worldwide event included Tokyo, Beijing, New Delhi and Singapore.

Moe than 12,000 runners participated in the inaugural IAAF Run 24-1 in 2018 and this year the numbers are expected to increase.
