Mongolia to take part in six sports at Youth Olympics

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, September 30, 2018: Mongolia will send an 11-strong contingent of athletes in six sports for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The squad will be led by Chef de Mission Chimeddorj Amarsanaa, an executive member of the National Olympic Committee of Mongolia and a former national table tennis player. He will be accompanied by six other team officials.

Wrestling will be among the top medal hopes for Mongolia which won a gold medal at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 as well as a silver medal at the previous edition in Nanjing. The other sports Team Mongolia will take part in are in 3-on-3 basketball, judo, shooting, taekwondo and weightlifting.

It will be the first time that Mongolia will send a four-member team for the basketball competition. Its boys’ team qualified on the U18 National Federations rankings.

Nearly 4,000 athletes from 206 nations will vie for medals in 32 sports during the October 6-18 Games in Buenos Aires.
