Sri Lanka honours top athletes at Presidential Sports Award ceremony

Colombo, Sri Lanka, July 18, 2019: Weightlifter Indika Dissanayake and boxer Anusha Kodithuwakku were named as Sri Lanka’s most outstanding sportsman and sportswoman in 2018.

Dissanayake, silver medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, won the top prize for male athletes at the third Presidential Sports Award ceremony at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo on Wednesday, July 17.

Kodithuwakku, who won a bronze at the Commonwealth Games, was awarded the Most Outstanding Sportswoman in 2018.

Amara Karunathilake won the Most Outstanding Differently Abled Sportswoman award. She won a silver medal in long jump at the 2018 Asian Para Games. Dinesh Herath, who won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the same event, won the Most Outstanding Differently Abled Sportsman award. Herath also won a bronze medal at the World Para Games in 2018.
