Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 14, 2019: The Secretary General of the United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee, His Excellency Talal Ahmed Al Shinkeeti, has congratulated His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and owner of Manchester City Football Club, on City’s success in winning the English Premier League title for the second season in a row.
Al Shinkeeti said City’s triumph, which was secured with a 4-1 victory away to Brighton on the last day of the Premier League season on Sunday, had brought enjoyment and pride for City fans around the world.
He said that City had played at an advanced technical level throughout the 38-game league campaign and that the club deserved praise for the leadership of Sheikh Mansour.
“This classy performance resulted in a sixth league championship in the club’s history after being crowned champions of the English Premier League,” said the Secretary General.
Al Shinkeeti said the back-to-back championships were a reward for the constant support of the club management and this reflected in the performance on the pitch.
The “high spirit” and “honourable” performance of the players had highlighted the “perfect climate” existing within the club and brought joy and passion to fans of all ages, he added.
City, which was founded in 1894, won the league championship for the first time in 1937 and added five more titles in 1968, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2019.
