Kickboxing to give more punch to SEA Games says top official

Date : 04 Dec 2018

Manila, Philippines, December 4, 2018: Kickboxing will be one of the most spectacular combat sports at the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines next year according to a top official of the Asian Kickboxing Confederation.

Nasser Nassiri, President of the Asian Kickboxing Confederation, was pleased that the combative sport was among the record 56 sports announced by organisers of the 2019 SEA Games.

“It will be a spectacular sport among the combat sports, and it will be a huge event for our Southeast Asian members,” Nassiri said. “Being part of the SEA Games will be a huge boost to kickboxing in terms of funding as well as publicity at both national and international level.”

There were only 30 sports included in the preliminary list of sports for the regional multi-sports event to be held in the Philippines in November and December 2019. But following a meeting of the organising committee in Manila last week, a record 56 sports have been confirmed with kickboxing making its debut.

President Nassiri said: “We worked very hard preparing our application and this is part of the fruits of this labour. The 2019 SEA Games will not only be the biggest ever but it will also be a remarkable event and we at kickboxing will be working even harder to make sure it will be a resounding success.”
