Manila, Philippines, July 22, 2019: Pinoy Athletics reports on the passing of a celebrated athlete in the Philippines, Claro Pellosis, at the age of 84.
“Pinoy Athletics wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to a coach, mentor and friend who touched the lives of so many of the athletic community,” Pinoy Athletics wrote in a Facebook tribute.
Pellosis was a sprinter who competed at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He was also part of the 1962 Asian Games 4x100 metres relay team which took the gold medal in Jakarta ahead of Japan with silver and Malaya with bronze.
His team mates in Jakarta were Remigio Vista, Isac Gomez and Rogelio Onofre. Onofre is now the sole survivor of that group.
Pellosis worked for many years as a coach and later as a chief technical official and was still active in his 80s as a meet consultant and technical official.
