Male, Maldives, August 26, 2019: Maldives Olympic Committee Secretary General Ahmed Marzooq visited Odawara, the host city for the Maldives for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, last Tuesday, August 20.
Marzooq met the Mayor of Odawara Kenichi Kato and checked the facilities for pre-Olympics training for Team Maldives. The Maldives Olympic Committee official was joined by Ambassador to Japan Ibrahim Uvais.
The delegation also discussed with Mayor Kato plans for a youth exchange programme between Odawara and Maldives following the Olympics.
Maldives bagged a total of four gold medals, four silver and seven bronze at the recent Indian Ocean Island Games held in Mauritius, finishing fifth in the seven-country event. Maldives will host the next IOIG in 2023.
Marzooq said the achievements of 2019 had set a new standard for excellence and would serve to encourage other athletes to aim high in the near future.
