Male, Maldives, July 4, 2019: A four-member delegation arrived in Maldives on Wednesday to tour proposed venues and review details of the 11th Indian Ocean Island Games 2023 bid.
The team comprising senior officials from the Olympic Committees of the Seychelles, Reunion, Mayotte and Mauritius were met by Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Minister of Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and members of the Maldives Olympic Committee.
On Thursday, July 4, Sports Minister Mahloof will make a presentation on the Maldives’ level of readiness for the Games. The presentation will cover several areas including competition venues, transportation, government and public support for the Games, accommodation and security.
The venue tour will take in facilities for basketball, football, table tennis and volleyball. On Friday, July 5, the visiting delegation will inspect the swimming venue, track and field, the surfing venue and athletes' accommodation.
The Maldives Olympic Committee made an official bid in February 2019. Mayotte and Comoros are also bidding to host the 2023 Games.
The government of Maldives has thrown its weight behind the bid, which has also received support from the Indian government.
