Manama, Bahrain, June 12, 2019: Bahrain will join other parts of the globe later this month in celebrating the 2019 Olympic Day, the Bahrain Olympic Committee has announced.
The Olympic Day event, organised by the BOC, has been scheduled for June 29 at the Water Park of Bahrain Bay in Manama where a set of sports and entertainment programmes have been lined up.
Among the activities will be a kids’ competition, colour run and health and cultural corners. The date, venue and programme were finalised recently by the organising committee, headed by BOC secretary general Mohammed Al Nusuf.
The highlight of the day will be an open water swimming race, a sailing competition, kayak race and rafting, in addition to a 2km run.
Olympic Day is celebrated all around the world on June 23 when hundreds of thousands of people, young and old, get moving and participate in sporting and cultural activities such as runs, exhibitions, music and educational seminars. It was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris.
