Dushanbe, Tajikistan, June 4, 2019: Athletes in a number of sports from Tajikistan will train in Aomori, Japan, before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games it was announced last week.
The Republic of Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Japan, Mirzosharif Jalolov, met the Mayor of Aomori City, Aichiiko Onodera, where the framework for the training camps before the Olympics were discussed.
This follows a Memorandum of Understanding which was signed for pre-Games cooperation between Emomali Rahmon, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, and also the President of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan, and Aomori City during a visit to Japan in 2018.
The agreement revolved around training for Tajikistan athletes in Japan for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
At last week’s meeting between the Mayor of Aomori City and the Tajikistan Ambassador to Japan, discussions centred on bilateral cooperation within the Host Town initiative and pre-Games training of Tajik athletes in August-September this year.
Tajik athletes in judo will also take part in the World Judo Championship in Tokyo from August 25-31, while the Tajikistan national karate team will participate in a competition, also in Tokyo, in early September.
