GCC NOCs establish sports dispute authority

Muscat, Oman, April 10, 2019: The 31st meeting of the Council of Presidents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) National Olympic Committees was held in Muscat, Oman on Tuesday, April 9.

The meeting approved the formation of the GCC Dispute Resolution Authority to be based in Bahrain. The Authority's board of directors will include the secretary generals of the GCC NOCs, the executive director of the Authority and a representative of the GCC Secretariat.

The meeting, chaired by Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni, Acting Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee, also congratulated the state of Qatar on winning the 2019 AFC Asian Cup held in the United Arab Emirates.

The QOC Secretary General HE Mr. Jassim Al Buenain thanked the officials of the Oman Olympic Committee for hosting the meeting and for their efforts to strengthen the GCC joint action.

Another decision was the formation of a team including the Oman Olympic Committee and Kuwait Olympic Committee to prepare a draft vision of joint sports cooperation in the GCC countries.

On international cooperation, the GCC meeting emphasised the continuation of cooperation in the field of sport between the GCC and both Jordan and Morocco.
