Singapore, April 1, 2019: Gymnast Tamara Ong received a sports scholarship as the Team Singapore Buenos Aires 2018Youth Olympic Games contingent came together for the National Trades Union Congress FairPrice Foundation Scholarship presentation last week.
Ong who won a gold medal in the mixed nation event at the Youth Olympic Games last October was rewarded with a sports scholarship. Ms. Karen Norden, general manager of Singapore Gymnastics, received the scholarship on her behalf as she is currently based in Melbourne.
Karen received the scholarship from Mr Sean Kian Peng, Chief Executive of NTUC FairPrice and Director of the Singapore Olympic Foundation. At the presentation were Guest of Honour Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Speaker of Parliament and President of the Singapore National Olympic Council, chef de mission Ms. Tao Li and the rest of the Singapore contingent.
A total of 18 athletes represented Singapore in 10 sports at the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires and returned with one gold medal, one national record and five personal best performances.
The athletes were also introduced to an introductory course to hip hop dance.
