Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, March 31, 2019: The Olympic Council of Malaysia held a meeting to re-establish its Athletes’ Commission last Friday.
The meeting was chaired by Dato Mohd Nazifudeen, Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Malaysia. A total of 23 of the 56 National Sports Associations affiliated to the Olympic body nominated their athletes’ representatives as members to the Olympic Council of Malaysia Athletes’ Commission.
“The new Athletes Commission will be very inclusive regardless of the type of sports. Each sport affiliated with us is eligible to be represented by two athletes, one male and one female,” said Dato Nazifudeen.
He explained to all athletes’ representatives the main purpose of the re-establishment and the new terms of reference which is endorsed by the International Olympic Committee.
Ms. Shalin Zulkifli, national tenpin bowling player, Asian Games gold medalist and a member of the women’s squad who won a gold medal at the World Bowling Championships 2017, was elected as Interim Chairperson of the Olympic Council of Malaysia Athletes’ Commission.
She is tasked to coordinate the election of the office bearers based on the new terms of reference. The Olympic Council of Malaysia will ensure the election process is conducted in a transparent manner.
