Date : 13 Mar 2019

Kathmandu, Nepal, March 13, 2019: The longest-serving employee at the Nepal National Sports Council and a former champion badminton player were felicitated by the Nepal Olympic Committee at a function to celebrate International Women’s Day last week.

Ms. Lalita Paneru, the oldest working employee at the National Sports Council, and Ms. Rajdevi Manandhar, a legendary badminton player in Nepal, were each presented with a plaque and a cheque for Rs. 25,000 by the President of the Nepal Olympic Committee and Member of Parliament Jeevan Ram Shrestha for their contribution to sport.

Chief Guest Shrestha said that even today, in the 21st century, women were still disregarded by society, but added that these attitudes were changing drastically as women empowerment was also a part of the United Nations Millennium Development Goal 2030.

President Shrestha also thanked Ms. Jyoti Rana, President of Women and Sports Commission of the Nepal NOC, for organising the event to celebrate a lifetime of achievement by two notable female personalities.
