Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, March 20-24, 2018: 21 national states representing 19 OCA and 2 EOC member countries visited Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, which hosted the Chefs de Mission Seminar for the inaugural Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games to be held in February 2019.
The participating countries of the Seminar included Afghanistan, Armenia, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Turkmenistan.
The delegations were represented by vice presidents, secretary generals, senior members and chefs de missions of NOCs and sport ministries. During the 3 days of the Seminar all delegates visited the sport venues and training grounds for the 8 Olympic winter sports included in the program of the Games. They also had inspected one of the accommodation venues for the athletes.
Delegation members noted the high readiness of the venues for the Games. In the course of the general meeting on organizational issues the delegates had a chance to learn all the conditions and terms of admission to the Games, including accommodation, meals, visa support, logistics, as well as to discuss the sports program and all the related matters.
The LOC informed the delegates that the participating teams take expenditures for return travel and insurance while all the accommodation, meals and local transportation will be organized by the LOC during the Games period.
On March 23 some of the chefs de mission had a chance to try their alpine skiing and snowboarding skills in the Gorniy Vozdukh (Mountain Air) Complex, while others visited museums or took excursions around the town. They also met with Sakhalin Regional Government officials headed by Vice Prime Minister Mr. Anton Zaitsev to discuss the upcoming Games and opened the countdown clock to the Opening Ceremony of the Games on the central square of the town.
During the Seminar the delegates also tried local cuisine, which is known by its wide variety of seafood delicacies including the famous Kamchatka crabs. In conclusion of the visit LOC organized the meeting with Governor of Sakhalin Region Mr. Oleg Kozhemyako and CAGIC President Mr. Dmitry Glushko, where NOC representatives were able to make their suggestions and comments in preparation for the upcoming Games.
