PyeongChang, Korea, February 16, 2018: Freestyle skier Zhang Xin won China’s third silver medal of PyeongChang 2018 after finishing second in the women's aerials at Phoenix Snow Park on Friday. Zhang, 32, earned 95.52 points in the final to take the silver, while her teammate Kong Fanyu got the bronze with 70.14. Hanna Huskova of Belarus posted 96.14 points to win the gold.
“I am happy that all these years of hard work have finally paid off, but at the same time I have a big regret because my aim was to win the gold for the Chinese Federation,” said Zhang. “I could have won the gold if I had landed slightly better in my final jump. “
Zhang said she would probably not be competing at the next Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022 because of long-term injuries to her back and knees, but feels there are plenty of young freestyle skiers taking up the sport back home.
“I haven’t made a decision yet, but it’s more than likely I will miss the next one,” she said. China has claimed five silver medals and two bronze medals in women's aerials since it became an official medal event at the 1994 Winter Olympic Games.
