OCA welcomes media to Ashgabat 2017

Date : 16 Sep 2017

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, September 16, 2017: The Chairman of the OCA Media Committee, Mr Charles Lo, welcomed media to the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) at the official opening of the Main Media Centre (MMC) on Saturday morning. Mr Lo said the OCA always worked closely with the local organising committee to provide the best services and working environment for the media across all platforms, including TV, reporters and photographers.

The MMC comprises the International Broadcasting Centre and the Main Press Centre and is located just across the road from the Ashgabat Olympic Complex. Organisers are expecting over 700 media to attend the 5th AIMAG, which will run from September 17-27 with 6,000 athletes and officials from 65 teams – 45 from OCA, 19 from Oceania and a Refugee Olympic Team.

“On behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia it is my pleasure to welcome all members of the media to the official opening of the Main Media Centre,” said Mr Lo. “The OCA has an office within the MPC and we will be happy to assist the media in their daily work. We hope to provide the best conditions for the media to work smoothly and efficiently.”

Mr James Bulley, CEO of Trivandi Chanzo Ltd – the company organising the AIMAG – said the Games would be delivered to the highest international standard. “The qualities of the facilities are state of the art,” he said. “The Olympic Complex is the best I have seen anywhere in the world.” He described Turkmenistan as a very proud nation, and this characteristic would make the games unique.

“We have trained 450 local staff through our games academy and 8,000 volunteers will be on duty. This will be the human legacy in delivering mega events after these games,” he concluded. Mr Annasahet Kakayev, Deputy Minister of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for TV, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography, described the AIMAG as a “moment in history for our country.”

He added: “We have been preparing for these games since 2010 and now have world-class facilities and highly trained staff.”
