Lausanne, Switzerland, January 17, 2017: Chinese President Xi Jinping was welcomed to the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic capital of Lausanne on Tuesday evening by IOC President Thomas Bach. President Xi, who arrived by train at Lutry station, having given the keynote address at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier in the day, is the first Chinese Head of State to visit the IOC.
Also at the station to welcome him was the President of the State Council of Vaud, Pierre-Yves Maillard. As the first stage of the visit, President Xi and President Bach held talks over dinner in Lausanne. Symbolic of the close cooperation between China and the IOC, the menu consisted of a series of courses of Chinese and European cuisine.
The official visit to the IOC will continue on Wednesday with bilateral talks and a tour of the Olympic Museum.
