Tokyo, Japan, January 16, 2017: The Chairman of the Olympic Council of Asia’s Athletes’ Committee, Koji Murofushi, has received a lifetime achievement award from the influential TV Asahi in his home country Japan. The award was to acknowledge the outstanding athletics career of the now-retired Murofushi, who is 42.
The highlights of a medal-strewn career for the men’s hammer throw champion were the Olympic gold medal at Athens 2004 and IAAF World Championships gold at Daegu, Korea, in 2011. He also won Olympic bronze at London 2012 to add to his collection of national, continental and international honours.
Murofushi is now Sports Director for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games organising committee as well as Chairman of the OCA Athletes’ Committee.
