Olympic Solidarity experts arrive for OS/OCA Regional Forum

Manama, Bahrain: Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Acting General Secretary, Abdulrahman Askar, received two representatives of the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity, Olivier Niamkey and Edward James, on Monday ahead of the OS/OCA Regional Forum for West, Central and South Asian NOCs. Askar welcomed the OS experts to Bahrain and conveyed the greetings of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, BOC President and event patron Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Askar briefed them on Bahrain’s preparations to host this major regional forum, and stressed that the event would forge even stronger ties and cooperation between the IOC and the NOCs in Asia. The two-day regional forum, to be held in Bahrain for the first time, will take place on May 7-8 at Riffa Hall in the InterContinental Regency Bahrain Hotel.
Organised in cooperation with the OCA, it will be attended by 54 officials from 26 countries, in addition to five representatives from Olympic Solidarity and three from the OCA. The first day will feature the Olympic Solidarity programme provided by the IOC and presented by Olympic Solidarity delegates from Switzerland. Their main topic will be NOCs good governance.

*On Monday, May 5, the Bahrain Olympic Committee hosted a ceremony to honour distinguished members of the national sports federations to mark Labour Day.
The function, held at the BOC premises in Seef, was attended by BOC Acting General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who presented the awards to representatives of 28 sports federations in appreciation of their efforts and contributions. He also presented commemorative awards to members of the BOC in an appreciation of their work.
*Five coaches have completed Level 4 of the National Coaching Certification Programme, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Sports Training and Development Section in Juffair in cooperation with the Coaching Association of Canada.
The five coaches are Mohammed Salman (volleyball), Mohammed Bakhsh (taekwondo), Hisham Abduljalil (football), Salah Hassan (shooting) and Salman Ramadan (basketball).
Articles presented for this level include planning, sports psychology, power and physical preparation, environment and nutrition, sports leadership, power systems, treatment and resuming activity and field visits.
