Manama, Bahrain: Bahrain Olympic Committee acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar has congratulated Asian Football Confederation president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa for being named Arab Sports Personality of the Year by the trustees of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award.
Shaikh Salman, the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee vice president, was selected as the Arab sports figure after winning the AFC presidency election last May.
Askar affirmed that choosing Shaikh Salman was considered a culmination of his major efforts and support for the development of football in Bahrain, the GCC, as well as one the continental and global levels throughout the years and during his previous posts, in addition to his leading role in the advancement of sports and youth march in general in Bahrain.
Askar said that this new achievement embodies his outstanding reputation at all levels, and his leading role in promoting Arab sport, pointing out that his victory in the AFC campaign is a clear evidence of his vast experience and skills as well as the trust given to him by the continental and international football bodies.
The BOC acting general secretary also stressed that Shaikh Salman's victory was one of the many successes achieved by the Bahraini sport in the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Award, including BOC member Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, and the Sports Training and Development Section, who won two separate awards.
