Malaysia celebrates Pandelela’s silver

Singapore: The Olympic Council of Malaysia is celebrating its first Olympic medal for a female athlete following the silver for Pandelela Rinong in the YOG youth women’s 10-metre platform diving competition at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old Pandelela finished second behind China’s Liu Jiao, with Sin Ji Hyang of DPR Korea taking the bronze in an Asian 1-2-3.

Liu won with a total of 479.60 points, 25.25 better than the Malaysian girl, who took silver with 454.35. Sin scored 430.20 points, 49.40 behind the Chinese gold medallist.

Pandelela Rinong, listed as Pandelela Pamg in the official YOG data base, has another opportunity to win an Olympic medal when she participates in the women’s 3m springboard diving event on Monday.
