China’s Yu Zaiqing re-elected IOC VP

07 Feb 2018
PyeongChang, Korea, February 7, 2018: China’s Yu Zaiqing was re-elected Vice President of the International Olympic Committee at the 132nd IOC Session on Wednesday. Mr Yu will begin a new four-year term as vice president, through to the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022. After being re-elected unopposed with 78 Yes votes and 7 No votes among IOC members, Mr Yu thanked IOC President Thomas Bach for his support and trust.

“I will do my best and would like to continue to make further efforts to work for the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic movement,” he said. “I will try and do my best to deliver a successful Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022.”

President Bach said Mr Yu’s term of office would come to an end in 2022 – perfect timing and “Chinese wisdom” regarding the hosting of the next Winter Olympics. Mr Yu joined the IOC in 2000 and was a member of the Executive Board from 2004-2008. He was Vice President from 2008-2012, and again from 2014 to the present.
