Malaysia NOC welcomes ‘Dream Together’ academics

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Two members of the “Dream Together” Master scholarship programme of Seoul National University visited the Olympic Council of Malaysia offices on Friday, May 17, to give a briefing to 20 Malaysian sports officials. Mr Kim Kihan, Associate Professor of Sport Management of the Department of Physical Education, and Mr Choi Jae-Yong, of the Sports Talent Project Team of NEST (Next Generation Sports Talent) Foundation, also conducted preliminary interviews with four applicants for the programme.
Prof. Kim stated that the new Dream Together programme has been initiated by Seoul National University and the Korean Olympic Committee. It is funded by the Korean Ministry and the Korea Foundation for the Next Generation Sports Talent (NEST) using the national sports promotional funds.
Dream Together offers full scholarships as well as living expenses and flight tickets. The programme will start from early August 2013 through May 2015. All students will stay in Korea from the beginning of the programme until December 2014. For the remaining five months, students will work on their theses in their home country. The students who complete the programme will receive the Master of Sport Management degree from Seoul National University.
OCM has been invited to nominate one candidate for consideration by the university for admission to the programme of the 20 places available for international students.

*The second session of the 6th Advanced Sport Management Course 2013 ended on May 19. The session covered Managing Human Resources and Managing Finance - topics very suitable and necessary for building the capacity of sports organisations.
The participants asked many questions, learning about membership drive, volunteerism, good finance planning and management, budgeting, evaluation and reporting, revenue and sponsorship. Many examples were given by the lead facilitator, Mr Wan Yew Leong, on the two chapters, helping participants in their case studies and leading them to the next two sessions in August and October.
*The 167th OCM Executive Council meeting was held on Saturday, May 18. The meeting approved the date of the 32nd OCM Annual General Assembly for Saturday, June 22. The deadline for nominations for the biennial elections of office bearers is June 12.
*Dato’ Wira Amiruddin Embi, President of the Malaysian Rugby Union, has been appointed Malaysia’s Chef de Mission to the Myanmar 27th SEA Games in December 2013.
