Bahrain to establish School Olympics

Manama, Bahrain: The Bahrain Olympic Committee and Education Ministry have agreed to launch a School Olympics. At a meeting attended by BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and the Education Ministry’s Physical Education, Scouting and Girl Guidance Director, Dr Shaikha Al Jeeb, the two parties decided to establish this new initiative and will now work on the details.

The project is part of the BOC vision and strategy, and its partnership with the Education Ministry is aimed at discovering new talents in a variety of sports.

The meeting was also attended by BOC Technical Director Lounes Madene, BOC Corporate Communications Executive Coordinator Fajer Jassim and the Education Ministry’s Physical Education section head, Essam Abdulla.

Madene said the programme would motivate youngsters from government and private schools to practise various types of sport, follow a healthy lifestyle and introduce them to the Olympic values. The project would feature educational programmes, field visits and meetings with Olympic champions to motivate the students and follow their lifestyle, he added. Sports competitions to be organised this year include football, basketball, athletics and table tennis.

Dr Shaikha Al Jeeb expressed admiration for the project and its objectives, and said the Physical Education, Scouting and Girl Guidance Directorate was keen to strengthen its partnership with the BOC.
