Bahrain wins three gold on last day of athletics

Sharjah, UAE: Bahrain took their tally to 15 medals in the 2nd Arab Women's Sports Tournament in Sharjah on Wednesday.On the fourth day of the tournament, the Bahrainis took five medals - three gold, one silver and one bronze - in athletics and table tennis. On the last day of the athletics competition, Al Shabab Club took home all three gold medals in the high jump, discus and 4x100m relay to come second overall with 12 medals (six gold, four silver and two bronze), finishing behind Sharjah Ladies Club with 18 medals (7-6-5). Yemen Ladies Club came third with 10 medals (3-5-2).

Bahrain's Maryam Al Ansari cleared 1.66 metres to take gold in the high jump, Basma Mohammed won the discus with 35.52 metres and the relay team of Zaynab Abdulhussain, Hajer Saad, Fatin Abdulnabi and Sabrine Yousef completed the gold medal haul for Bahrain by finishing first in the 4x100m relay in 51.27 seconds.

Bahrain's remaining two medals of the day were won by Bahrain Club table tennis team, who captured the doubles silver medal and team bronze. Kuwait Ladies Club won the round-robin team event with 10 points, followed by Qatar Ladies Club (8) and Bahrain (6).

Bahrain Olympic Committee's Women's Sports Committee Chairwoman and delegation head Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa joined the medal winners in a photo shoot.
