Seoul, the capital of South Korea, hosted the 10th Asiad. Its great success was a prelude to Seoul Olympic Games in 1988 and her economic prosperity of early nineties. Although the weather on the day of the Opening Ceremony was not kind, the Olympic Stadium with capacity of 100,000 was filled to the brim. The 10th Asiad was the first one to be supervised by the Olympic Council of Asia, OCA.

Hinting at titanic evolution of future Asiad, Bowling, fencing, Judo and Taekwondo were
added from the last one to make up 25 disciplines at this time.

In medal tally, South Korea showed splendid effort against China and won in total number of medals but lost in the race for gold. On the other hand, Japan slipped further in ranking, placing 3rd. The era of China-Korea domination begun.
